Halloween Circle 2009 : Rachel, sF, r3, v3, v8, v4, v9, v10 ; 2000 - 2240 hrs. VN dictaphone.
In common with 2008, and previous Halloween circle meetings, the opening was changed to invite communicators from all backgrounds and especially the Old Religion.
The sitting was opened in darkness and remained so for approximately 20 minutes. Like many sittings before, very few voices were heard in this period. Rachel reported a fog behind the curtain, that appeared to be self-illuminating and which condensed into the head and shoulders of a human form. This was visible only for a few seconds before fading, sadly it did not reappear.
The seance room was full to capacity and this presented some difficulty when communicators wanted to transfigure in low red light. It was necessary for the chairs to be rearranged mid-circle, which is never ideal.
Sitters were directed by a female communicator to take turns sitting in the front row beside sF, in an attempt to get a clearer view of her face. sF, r3, v8 and v10 ( in the first 2 rows ) all reported seeing an elderly lady's face; she was described as having a hook nose, black eyebrows and hair, and very piercing dark eyes. r3 and sF were somewhat alarmed by her appearance and remarked that she was almost frightening. Her appearance was followed by a regular male communicator, then a string of unknown communicators in a short burst.
At one point all sitters reported that Rachel's head was no longer visible and was shrouded in a black static mass. This lasted for approximately 5 seconds. A little later, the first two rows reported that only one of Rachel's hands was visible, the other could not be seen from any angle. It reappeared and was described as being somewhat whiter than the other.
Despite having a good sitting, we must seriously consider reducing the number of sitters in future circles. Working with irregular sitters, communicators are likely to reduce the lighting levels. This naturally leads sitters to question their vision and introduces doubt.

The recording was clear but contained very few voices compared with previous sittings. Even the clearest were not comparable with those considered poor in last years Halloween circle. We do not know why this is and can only hope that future sittings provide a better environment for recordings. As we are frequently told, we shall have to wait and see.
1. Muffled speech - d'you hear the bells Tony ( Tony is not a sitter ) - sF: Did you just hear the bells? / v8: I just did
2. v10: Rachel's right hand has completely dissappeared / sF: yes it has, where has it gone? - you sense it - sF: can you see her hand? I can see her other hand
3. Rachel: she was a character though - d'you think she's got one church? - sF: well that's what you'd want, a character to come...
4. sF: actually when we were opening up I saw one... - growl
5. sF: Okay, can you walk through the curtains and walk amoungst us and touch one of us - how will you react? ( quite hissy )
6. v10: ...wafting and then going back around the curtain again, about - so its us - two, three feet above Rachel's head
7. sF: ..I didn't want to interrup Rachel - pushy, pushing, person - Rachel: is there anyone there, that would like to through...
