Q : Are you fit to be a member of the circle ?

A : Being fit for circle means being fit mentally and physically, it is just as important to be physically healthy as to be mentally healthy.

When members of the circle prepare for a sitting, they always ask themselves "Am I fit to sit ?". By fit to sit we mean in good physical health, not overtired, run down, suffering from any infections or being mentally unable to put aside your day to day life. Being overtired at the end of a long day at work or feeling below par will mean that you are not able to focus on the purpose of the circle; more than once a guest has fallen asleep and been very embarrassed when they woke themselves up snoring. Our room is quite small and when the windows and door are covered, infections however slight have been spread to fellow members. If in doubt, it is always better to let your fellow members know that you are unable to sit.

Mental health is very important to all members of the circle. Whilst the medium if necessary may be able to work when physically ill, they too must not sit when mentally incapacitated. It would be very irresponsible for the circle to admit a guest who was suffering from any form of mental illness. Even sitters who considered themselves to be strong have found themselves questioning their sanity after witnessing certain forms of physical phenomena.

To be fit for our circle is to be able to sit for two and a half hours, quite still in a seat, to be enthusiastic, objective and to be able to leave your preconceptions and the world outside.
